Last Sunday, my family was in town, and they arranged a Sunday dinner with my great aunt and uncle just up the street from campus. Upon arriving, my great aunt Vivian mentioned how much they have enjoyed my dad's vegetable recipe for the last decade since the last time my family had come to visit. Apparently, he had come up with some brilliant recipe, but he had no memory of it. "Oh, you must enjoy your dad's veggies all the time! It's quite famous up here!" My aunt told us. Confused, all we could reply was, "No, I don't think we have...." My dad had made green beans and carrots cooked in some Dill pickle stuff. It tasted okay, but my family is not so big on pickles, so I can understand why we may have forgone it so long ago. Interesting, though, how that one visit and one dish marked my father, after all those years, as a good cook. My dad said it made his week, and I don't blame him.
As for the rest of the meal, it was not only filling and delicious, but it gave me a huge appreciation for being in a house, where the food is homemade, and I sit in a family setting. I had forgotten how much I missed that atmosphere. For the last month and a half I have been with all people my age, eating in a cafeteria or a restaurant, and sleeping in a dorm. The food is fine, I'm still comfortable, but it's just different. Do you know what I mean? It makes me more excited for Thanksgiving when I get to go home and have a BIG dinner!

I really know what you mean. Having dinner with my family is so special to me, and I do miss it. I'm also VERY excited for Thanksgiving!
Jealous, I miss home-y atmospheres! And I have no idea what I'm doing for Thanksgiving.
I know what you mean. You seem like you have a really nice family. Thanksgiving will be grand, won't it?
"had no memory of it"... once at a Relief Society dinner, lady after lady came up to my mom and told her how wonderful the salad was. She was so confused that she came over to me in between compliments and said that she hadn't MADE the salad.
She had forgotten that it was HER recipe, that she had given the r.s. pres like, 2 days before...
It is really interesting how one experience can mark someone, positively or negatively, in others' minds.
Huh.
My family only has dinner about once a week due to our hectic schedules, but i miss it a ton! Isn't it funny we have an entire school break for a holiday that is all about a family meal??
