My writing DNA

Describing my style accurately feels near impossible. I don't really know how to sum up my writing, because as I write I sometimes read it again and think, "Was that me? Is that the way I sound?" Sometimes I sound too intellectual, using way too many big words and prepositions than is socially acceptable anywhere outside of super-formal analysis-type papers, such as my high school Senior Thesis essay. Here, just read this:

"The most difficult deformations of reality to detect are the ones within a person’s own psyche, where cognitive processes do not yield credible evaluations of the surrounding environment."

What the heck does that mean? Did I say that? I sound like Professor McSmartypants.

Then, at other times, my style goes in the complete opposite direction; for example, these blog entries. These entries are much more casual and give me the chance to be totally out there. Take a look at my last entry:

"I walk in my dorm, and nope, this is not going away quickly. It's worse. I'm having trouble walking. I wanted to just go to bed, maybe it will be better in the morning, but gah! College laziness strikes again! I still had a bunch of junk left on my bed that needed to be cleared! I was in pain, and I pretty much just threw everything aside and thought, 'I'll clean you later, but right now, this bed is MINE!'"

Completely different guy. The question is, are there similarities? Do I have any recognizable patterns that give me away? Well, if there is one thing I think I do consistently, it's that whenever I describe something, I always try to throw in two or three adjectives to embellish it. I just did it in the beginning of this post when I said "super-formal analysis-type papers". I did this also in my Senior Thesis when describing a character like this:

"Though he comes across as an eccentric, knowledgeable friend, he is in fact a clueless, self-confident big-time drug dealer using Arctor, Freck, and Luckman as guinea pigs."

Count 'em up, I used FIVE adjectives in one sentence to describe the same character! Eccentric, Knowledgeable, clueless, self-confident, and big-time. Wow.

Now if I forget to put my name on an essay, I expect you all to able to identify it as mine for me.
